National StrategyKey objective: Impliment the Government's 10 year strategy
Key target: Aiming to reduce the harm that drugs cause to society - communities, individuals and their familiesIn December 2002 the Government launched the Updated Drug Strategy 2002. This built upon, and adapted the Government's Drug Strategy Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain, launched in 1998. The National Strategy has 4 main aims:
Young People - preventing today's young people from becoming tomorrow's problematic drug users;
Reducing Supply - reducing the supply of illegal drugs;
Communities - reducing drug-related crime and its impact on communities;
Treatment and harm minimisation - reducing drug use and drug-related offending through treatment and reducing drug-related death through harm minimisation.Local StrategyKey objective: To implement the National 10 year strategy at the local level
An initial meeting took place in mid April drawing together the four Drug and Alcohol Action Teams in the South West and key stakeholders from the statutory and non-statutory drug service providers. The purpose of the meeting, to introduce the concept of a peninsula wide strategy for both training and workforce planning. There was unanimous agreement and work has commenced. Document Library
